Jillian Michaels is on a mission... to kick our butts. You might know Jillian as a personal trainer from hit TV shows like The Biggest Loser and Losing It With Jillian. But she is also known as a fitness expert, a New York Times bestselling author, and creator of many fitness DVDs and video games.
"Shred-It with Weights" is Jillian's latest video containing two 30-minute workouts utilizing kettlebell techniques. A kettlebell is a weight that looks like a cannonball with a single handle. This old-school piece of equipment is specifically used for strength training. Jillian applies these concepts to create a total body workout that burns fat and tones the body. Don't worry if you don't have a kettlebell -- you can substitute a single 3 to 8 pound hand weight in its place.
The DVD also includes a Kettlebell Tutorial. Both workouts include a 5-minute warm up and 5-minute cool down, but that is where the similarities stop. Each workout lasts about 20-minute giving you a 30-minute total workout time.
The Level 1 workout is meant for beginners to intemediate users. This level is where you learn how to control your movements while using the correct techniques. You get the right amount of resistance and cardio at same time. You learn exercises like Bridge Press, Swings, and Deadlift Rows, as well as combinations like rack, squat, and press.
Level 2 is meant for the intermediate to advanced user. This level is where you maintain your good form while using momentium and your core to complete the movements. You learn exercises like Split Jerks, One Leg Halo, Russian Swings, and Deep Squats with Press. Both workouts offer circuit training techniques for total body results.
As always, Jillian is motivating and forceful. Requires signifcant upper-body and core strength, definitely not for beginners.
A 5 to 20 lb. kettlebell is strongly suggested.
